I first heard of Shanda the Panda in an ad in the short-lived AMERICAN JOURNAL OF ANTHROPOMORPHICS. It was,however, advertized as the new Omaha the Cat Dancer, which I already knew as inciting controversy about the sex in the stories.
The Journal suffered major damage to its rep and goals by a bad printing job in issue #2. (pages uncut,etc.) and they had to backburner plans to go color, while getting a new printing firm and trying to repair publicity. It did not succeed, and issue #4 was the last.
