Geez how could I resist NOT writing about this.

For those of you not familiar with the title, this is an upcoming cartoon show aimed at kids about a boy who finds a magic ring in his deceased aunt's estate. The ring grants superpowers to it's wearer BUT there is a catch, the ring is meant for a girl to wear.
The pilot ran a few years ago on Disney (that's how I missed it) as part of their Shorty McShorts' Shorts series, you can see the pilot here www.viddler.com/v/d0371341
A funny enough premise but you can see how it might be controversial so nothing was heard of a series.
UNTIL NOW.
kidscreen.com/2011/04/01/dhx-m…

Here's the new opening for the show
www.dailymotion.com/video/xurx…

It's still a funny idea and I look forward to seeing the show.
No word on if it's even going to run in the US yet.

Couple of things about it that could get controversial.
It's not established if the kid actually becomes a girl or just gets the costume and hair & makeup, although in the pilot when he transforms back he DOES say "I'm a dude again"
His attitude towards being Shezow, he likes the powers but not the costume and the fact he at least looks like a girl, that is likely to get some bad reactions from the womens groups.
The fact his best friend is in love with Shezow will probably also get some flak.

Me, I just hope it runs over here, it looks like it'll be funny.
There is even some nice fanart all ready.

It still is a really great show. The Shorty McShort-Shorts' cartoon's only real saving grace was Jason Earles as Guy. Now, the animation, characters, writing, plots, and even the character and art design are a million and six times better! The show, unfortunately, is pretty underrated, but really shows just how talented people can use Flash for amazing animation like this.

I watched a few of the episodes and the entire thing has been sanitized. Worst feminine thing he has to put up with is a manicure and tripping on his heels. :P

Iit will be fun to see the way they write the show. I do think t would make more sense and help to suspend belief to actually have the hero become the girl in super hero form, or look so like a boy in drag and the sister trying to get the ring off as she prob wants it. Btw you seem to love that cross dressing plot twist stuff perhaps a little too much? why you Ackin' so Cray' Cray'? :p lol I kid but It does remind me of an anime I just saw recently called is this a zombie. [link] here is a wikipedia page link. and you tube episode [link]
alright there hang tight and keep your stick on the ice killa!

It has been confirmed it is just crossdressing by the creator himself. No transforming into a girl.
"I'm a dude again" meant that he looks like one. Also you can tell by the voice in the pilot that there is no gender change.

It will also air in Europe and apperently also online.

Just clearing a few things up here.

As there's a moment of "damn, which bathroom" in the original short, I wouldn't be surprised if a trans activist (or ally) is involved in the production somewhere.

I hope it's funny without being misogynistic or transphobic.

Let's face it, there always has to be a bathroom question in a cross dress cartoon comedy. :)

Yeah, from the original short the sister says "Dude looks like a lady" and although are near the same age, he doesn't get....mounds lol. So 90% sure he's still a guy.

I agree with ya.
But just watch, some fan will say if it's not a transformation than the hair is just a wig and should be able to be pulled off.
God, I'm hoping the show get's popular just to see some of the fan arguments on it. ;)

Well there are superheroes and heroines that don't change in any physical aspect except the hair. So I think the hair isn't a wig, but he's still a boy.

I think the "Best Friend in Love" thing is being dropped from the actual show; it looks like Maz is aware of Shego's secret identity at least.

Pretty sure it's just a clothing change.

I think it looks cute but have some issues depending on how it's handled. If Shezow's ludicrously feminine appearance/powers are only played for the "it's a guy dressed as a girl" joke, that could get old fast. But if it's played as a satire of how female superheroes were/are portrayed (especially in older comics) *that* could be brilliant.

Oh, and if anyone couldn't make out the lyrics to the opening, here's how they were listed on the show's Facebook page:
Guy finds a ring, it does super things,
Now he’s secretly SheZow (SheZow)
Here to save the World, lookin’ like a girl.
Sister has the know-how.

His sidekick Maz cracks him up,
Best friend a guy could ask for.
Villains beware, SheZow’s in his lair,
Lookin’ to settle the score.

Hey! She-S-P, super strength and speed,
everything a superhero needs.
Vanishing Cream, Laser lipstick too,
His big weakness is a “messed up do”.

SheHicle revs with power supreme,
Becomes a plane and a submarine.
Super slap and a sonic scream,
Guy’s a kid who’s livin’ the dream!

Chorus
SheZow (SheZow), Guy is SheZow
Was his aunt but he’s SheZow now.
SheZow (SheZow), Guy is SheZow, Dad finds out he’ll have a cow.

Villains from sea and outer space,
Are always getting’ in SheZow’s face.
Tara, Tattoozoola too,
Watch out! Shezow’s after you.

Chorus
SheZow (SheZow), Guy is SheZow
Kelly and Sheila are runnin’ the show.
SheZow (SheZow), Guy is SheZow
Boys kick it like bros.

(key change)

SheZow (SheZow), Guy is SheZow
Never been a hero like him before.
SheZow (SheZow), Guy is SheZow
There’s only one SheZow.

I don't know about the best friend smitten with Shezow has been dropped. If you look at the end of the new opening the friend appears with a certain look on his face. Shezow elbows him in the ribs in a friendly manner then seems to regret his actions and runs off. Just my guess on it since characters seem to run a lot in opening titles for no reason. :)

I do agree about the satire of old comic book heroines, the laser sword lipstick could have come right out of the old Batwoman character. Heck the fact he has to try to fight crime in spike heels is sort of a dead giveaway.

This is something that has some potential. If written smartly, Shezow could be a great series while still prodding at outdated notions of gender identity. If not, it will reflect very poorly on Disney and possibly the entire LGBT community. I have hopes for this series, but obviously I'm cautious.
